Deja Sweeney

Deja Sweeney is a new face to the Dallas Metroplex and its volleyball community. She recently graduated from Baylor University with a BS in Education. Deja moved to Dallas in hope to start her career. Born in Hayward California, she was raised most of her life in Sacramento. She started playing volleyball her freshmen year for Natomas High School as Middle Blocker. There, she became the most improved player, and then earned MVP her senior year. After graduating high school, she attended Sacramento City College. Her first year she was named MVP, Northern California's best player, and All-State player. Her last year she received the same rewards as well as All-American and was the ranked as the top blocker of California. Her last year, Sacramento City college finished 8th out of 112. To a big surprise, she earned a scholarship to Baylor University. As a junior Deja was changed from a middle to an outside, but later changed to a DS. The last month of season, she got some playing time as the starting libero. At that time, Deja was the tallest libero in all Big XII. She graduated from Baylor with Big XII honors her junior and senior year. As a coach Deja has worked with them all. In high school, she volunteered and studied the difference among men's and women's volleyball. She helped with Jesuit High School, and the UC Davis Club Team. During her first year of college, Deja was the co-Head coach of the 14 elite team for Davis VBC. That year, her girls finished in the top 20 of Northern California and in the top 30 during the Volleyball Festival. At the same time, she was the director of the Capital Athletic Club's Adult Volleyball program. There she organized tournaments, practice nights, and game nights. While at Baylor, she helped with BU Men's Volleyball Club Team, and later was assigned the Head coach position. She volunteer coached with Waco Juniors 16's Gold Team her senior year. Today, Deja is jump starting her career, and is now a part of the Madfrog family. She looks forward to working with Nicky's 14's team, and hopes to establish herself here in the Dallas region.
